Our story
Surf Awakening is not just a business, it’s our life. We are a Dutch-Moroccan couple who brought our worlds together at the magical coast of Morocco. What started as a personal love affair now blossomed into a shared mission: to share our passion for the ocean and Moroccan hospitality with the world.
Together we’ve created a place where you’ll instantly feel at home. The combination of Dutch structure and Moroccan soul creates a unique experience. We believe surfing is more than just a sport; it’s a way to wake up, to connect and to live the moment.

meet abdellah
The ocean has been my home since I was a kid. Growing up in El Jadida, with the rhythm of the Atlantic at my doorstep, the sea became my teacher, my happy place and I’m very lucky to call this my work place. Surfing is my way of connecting – to the sea, to myself, and now, to you.
After over 7 years living in Taghazout and teaching surf, I’ve shared thousands of waves with beginners, intermediates and experienced surfers. Now I’m taking the most exciting step yet: welcoming you to my own surf school: Surf Awakening. Whether you’re touching a surfboard for the first time or have caught many waves already, I’m here to welcome you into our family. Join us in the water and I’ll help you level up with the biggest smile you’ve ever had!
Meet Nikki
What started as a quick visit for a surf camp turned into staying for 3 months—and falling in love with both Abdellah and the area. I’ve been coming back again and again for over 2 years now. Never before have I been in a place where the people are so welcoming, taking you into their community, and where life feels so light and relaxed.
And then there’s the surfing. Whether it’s your first time standing on a board or you’re chasing clean, endless waves, there’s something really special about being in the water here. Long sunny days, consistent swells, and that feeling of freedom you only get when you’re out on the ocean—it’s hard not to get hooked.
